This year Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker is streaming in Aberdeen, directly to your living room! In a regular year Moscow Ballet’s Great Russian Nutcracker at Northern State University’s Johnson Fine Arts Center (JFAC), home to one of the strongest music and theater departments in the Midwest. JFAC is a valuable resource for the public and the entire campus community, presenting and hosting more than 65 concerts and events during the year. The auditorium also hosts NSU student theater performances and concerts. Community events have brought in special guests including actor Kevin Costner and the rock band Kansas.
The NSU School of Fine Arts is working to raise $14.5 million to renovate the Johnson Fine Arts Center, provide updated equipment and furnishings, and continue providing valuable scholarship assistance to recruit and retain the finest fine arts students in the upper Midwest. The renovation and addition to the Johnson Fine Arts Center will include: Updated main theatre (seats, lights, sound, shell, acoustics), Black Box theater, art gallery, expanded lobby/foyer space, box office and patron drop-off zone, new music faculty teaching studios, new theater faculty and staff offices, new student practice rooms and general purpose classrooms, costume shop relocation and expansion, dressing room renovation and expansion, Green Room, music education lab and electronic piano lab.
Moscow Ballet and Local Aberdeen Ballet Partnership: Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center

Nutcracker wouldn’t be Nutcracker without the local Children’s cast! Dancing along side the full professional Russian cast are local Aberdeen children from the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center. The Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center (ARCC) dance program is cosponsored by the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department and the Aberdeen Area Arts Council. The program provides quality and affordable dance classes for students of all ages and abilities in a positive and fun environment. The ARCC contains six dance studios which equipped with mirrors, wooden floors and bars, which will fit the dancers’ needs.
The dance program has 752 students, who are age 2 to adult and 7% percent of the students are male, said Dance Coordinator Weisenburger. The students attend 100 classes each week, from Monday through Thursday and the program employs 15 instructors and 10 dance assistants. The ARCC program offers a wide array of classes, including rhythmic gymnastics, ballet, tap, jazz, modern, hip hop, clogging, Zumba, pilates, Broadway and boys’ break-dancing. The ARCC dance program also has classes to fit students with special needs.
