Moscow Ballet and Lakeland Ballet Partnership: Highland School of Dance
Nutcracker wouldn’t be Nutcracker without the local Children’s cast! Dancing along side the full professional Russian cast are local Lakeland children from Highland School of Dance. Highland School of Dance (HSD) in Lakeland was opened in 1974 by Jane Coyle. The objectives and standards have always been to give the best dance education possible while instilling high moral standards to be used all through life and to enjoy the freedom that dance brings while learning the discipline that it demands. HSD’s former students have gone on to dance in college and professionally. Students have attended, performed with, founded, and been employed by Disney World in Florida and Japan, Ballethnic, Butler University, Busch Gardens, Chicago Lyric Opera, Cincinnati Conservatory, Deeply Rooted Production, Demetrius Klein Dance Company, Lines Ballet, Martha Graham Foundation, Moving Current, Moving People Dance Theater, New World School of the Arts, Point Park University, Redwall Dance Theatre, River North, Southern Ballet Theater, Southern Methodist University, and University of South Florida, as well as appearances in Broadway productions.
