The University Performing Arts (UPA) and University Galleries are two arms in the administration of programs in creative and performing arts at William Paterson. UPA is responsible for programming and logistical support for the Jazz Room Series, Distinguished Lecturer Series. WP Presents! and all public productions in the Shea Center for Performing Arts and the Hunziker Black Box Theatre.
Our mission is to provide a spectrum of engaging and significant live performances, accessible to students and all members of our community, throughout the year. Bringing talent to the foreground of your experience is our first goal. Fostering diversity and depth of experience follows. The performing arts represent not only what happens on a stage or in a concert hall, but what happens for you in the performing moment and after.
Since 2005 the program has presented Pulitzer Prize-winning plays and other works from some of the most prolific playwrights and musical theatre teams of the past and present. The list includes Proof, Metamorphoses, Art, The Shape of Things, Rabbit Hole, The Baltimore Waltz, The Clean House, Almost Maine, Defying Gravity, What I Did Last Summer, Talking With, Roosters, Quilters, The Rimers of Eldritch, A…My Name is Alice, And the World Goes ‘Round, Antigone, A Thurber Carnival, Topdog-Underdog, Joined at the Head, Reckless, Speaking in Tongues, Tartuffe, The Dining Room, The Heidi Chronicles, Boeing, Boeing, Kimberly Akimbo, When the Rain Stops Falling, Ruined, Clybourne Park, and Blue Window.
